Ani Xinaya Pavilion, Peru

The Tinkü project is a collaboration between the Arkaea Institute and the Santa Clara Shipibo-Conibo community. Its goal is to construct a transcultural art center on the community’s ancestral land in Ucayali, Peru. The center includes a main pavilion called “Ani Xinaya,” which means House of Knowledge. This pavilion serves as a multi-purpose event space for both Arkaea’s educational and research activities and community events hosted by the Santa Clara community.

Design Approach:

The concept and the beauty of the pavilion as a whole are immediately reflected in the chosen materials. An indoor-outdoor environment is created by utilizing organic, natural materials like wood, clay, and stone. The pavilion’s façade predominantly employs transparency through carefully arranged movable wooden door slats allowing light and air to freely flow throughout the space, thereby creating an atmosphere where occupants feel immersed in nature and its lush surroundings. To further enhance the tranquil ambiance, neutral paint colours were chosen to complement the earthy tones. Bamboo and concrete were chosen to create contrast with the surrounding landscape while seamlessly harmonizing with the overall design palette. The design prioritizes sustainability and environmental responsibility through the use of sustainable materials and renewable energy sources such as solar panels and green roofs to minimize environmental footprint while showcasing the beauty of local biodiversity.
